Cold Dream, the literal translation of Menghan in Chinese, is the alias of Menghan Wang, an interdisciplinary artist, sound artist, and independent curator. Born in Beijing, China, Menghan has been active in the independent art, underground and club music scenes in China as a musician, DJ, and promotor. After relocating to Berlin, Germany in 2018, she expanded her practice to sound installation, video art, and multimedia performance.
She studied and received a Master of Arts degree in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK). Her work has been presented at Centre Pompidou x West Bund Museum Project, UCCA Beijing, Goethe-Institut Beijing, Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture (UABB) in Shenzhen, Climate Care Festival Berlin, etc. She is a member of the Crumb Factory Collective and Gallery, where she co-founded the curatorial platform “Apolis”, and co-curated the International Video Art Exhibition with 23AD under the same title, exhibited as part of the Green Mountain Film Festival 2024.
Menghan’s work mirrors the hidden emotions and underlying challenges in life, and reflects the interplays between movement and representation, self and otherness, undercurrent and status quo. The audiences are encouraged to (re)explore, reflect, and (re)discover the interrelations between the self and the environment through the inner journeys evoked through her work.
